Copy writing for Humans

Hi everyone
everyone who has a blog, sooner or later will become a  little despondent at how little exposure or how  little  traffic is coming your way.

When people get to this point they become very easily distracted.

Michael Shakespear Fallon

focus disappears out of the window.

you might have a re- think and embark on how to write good copy either for yourblog posts or sales pages .
That’s when you have a couple of choices to make .

Do you go on a journey and try to please the search engines by saturating your copy with keywords and links
Or do you write to give your blog/sales visitors value ,” Value for taking their time to come  over to visit you”
These people are very busy people who  are most probably,  looking for good stuff to read .

It’s a tricky one ,there’s no mistake, but heaven forbid if you just concentrate on the search engines.

The drawback with writing for the search engines is you run the risk of boring your visitors to death.

Blogging is not just about being interested in your self but also about being interested in otherpeople.

when you first start writing ,you are  usually writing for other people , but then you start reading about other ways to bring traffic to your blog  and try to implement search engine optimization or Seo for short
which is a not a bad thing , but just be careful because we want to keep our post full of humor , facts ,valuable information , empathy, feedback and most of all real life.

We want to keep our blogs interactive

Just getting away from blogging for a second and jumping onto the subject of copy for email marketing

Alex Jeffreys ,Lee McIntyre, Dean Holland , do not stick to the norm in their copy , every time I open an email from any one of these three it is full of quirky copy here’s an extract from one of Lees emails

Cripes, I’m writing this message at 15:25 the
following day and I’m still feeling a bit “delicate”.

(…and that’s an understatement!)

or this one

I held nothing back and the audience thought
I was BONKERS for giving away so much of
the good stuff!

Cripes is that in the English language mmm I’m not sure is Bonkers ,again I’m not sure but they are words that jump out at you and grab your attention.

To stand out on the internet you have to be a bit unique
so write for humans first ,and the search engines second
cheers Mick.

    Hi Mike,

I am a mix of both. Sometimes I write with a keyword in mind, however I often get side tracked and end up writing as I feel. I have no idea if this works for SEO or not and truthfully at the moment I am not too worried. I just like writing about what I am learning and hopefully people find me. I think once I have some really good content on there I will be more conscious of traffic.

Great piece and definite food for thought. I think it is best to be a combination of both but be true to yourself and real as well! :)

See you back here soon!

    Hey Mick,

I have to be honest, It takes me long enough to think what I am going to write so if I was to then take that and think about making it SEO friendly I don’t think that I would ever get a blog post done.

I only tend to post when I have something to say either something that I feel would help the people or an update on how I am doing so people know that money can be made online.

I know I should do a bit of SEO but I don’t for my blog and so far so good as my blog has an Alexa rank of 145,634.

    All the best,

    James

    Hello Mick

Your spot on, If you have your own style of writing thats great, how many of us get emails offering us this and that, all looking the same style, They should all have in the title “heres another sales email get you money out”
but having a good style will increase your sales, and people will start to like you as a person and will open more of the email that you send, money in the bank.
    Cheers

    Hey Mick,

Great post, as usual! You said it…write for a search engine and risk boring people. I tend to write as though I am talking to someone, one-on-one.

I do not know if it works for blogs, as much…but I have learned that the people who are reading my articles, prefer the human interaction. People can relate to other people who have experienced problems that they are going through at the time. As long as you are honest, (HARD to come by in this business)people will respect your opinions.

Keep up the great work…your blog is really amazing, Mick!

Take care of yourself-I wish you all of the success that you deserve in 2010 and beyond!

    Hey Mick…
Well thought out and written post. As you know, I am a professional writer, although I have never considered myself as such. I’ve had 4 books published and wrote columns in 4 different national magazines. (honk-honk — gee sounds like me honking my own horn… LOL)

The major thing I learned about column writing, is that I had to be a critic; give opinions; the news and educational bits of my subject matter; and come across as a real person and not some lofty person with a “God-complex.”

All of which are attributes of writing Blog posts and articles. I learned to be honest, brief, (haha) and just speak from my heart, being friendly and informative. Speaking in first person, as if I were just talking to my best friend.

No Search Engines to have to worry about currying favor with, but I did have to think of the readers, and magazine advertisers, and of course the editors. I didn’t have to repeat keywords 4 to 7 times in an article in order to get readers. Which, by the way, would have really sounded like I’d lost it that day. :-) Still, I won several awards for writing.

I’m sure I don’t even think about SEO when I write my Blog posts and articles and yet, Google Bot comes to visit my Blog around 18 times a day! And the huge number of hits I continue to get surprise me daily.

My advice to budding authors, write what you know; be honest about it, but friendly and personable; throw in a little humor and let the chips fall where they may. And for goodness sakes, edit your copy! :-)

And come and visit me when you can.

    Hi Mick

Great article. I know what you mean about quirkee writin. Those very successful people let their personality show – and the results sure show as well !

    Certainly things we can learn.

    Cheers

I share the wisdom you have expounded here. I post once a week and I make sure that I compose very good stuff for my readers. Expressing myself through my own unique approach has done me good. :-)
