What does this mean for Marketing Methods that use free trial and free shipping
to entice membership.
Visa and Master card are chasing this up they seem to have a problem with forced “hidden” continuity
so some of the big player who have continuity programs that are not 100% transparent and legit
could well have their accounts suspended
customers must be made aware of terms and conditions.
Merchants must not put obstacles in the way of cancellations
It looks like Visa are getting a wee bit fed up with all those charge backs.
It cost’s them a heck of money to process and must take up valuable time.
Visa say they don’t want any programs that offer free trials with a low first payment and a recurring payment
what they seem to be chasing are sites that say offer a dollar start up or some kind of free gift
but are far from upfront on say the £40 a month continuity fee and have avoided
putting confirmation check boxes so the buyer is fully aware of what they are signing up for.
Many of the big players will be brought down by Visa and Master Cards decision ,However when one door closes another one opens so there
will be new opportunities for people there always is.
here’s a snippet from PowerPay
Marketing models that employ “Free-Trial”, “Deferred Billing” and/or “Shipping Only”. Customers must be receiving a tangible good or contracted service in exchange for charging of payment cards. Incentivized discount offers are acceptable when the cardholder is receiving something in exchange for payment, however we will be unable to support accounts engaging in hidden or delayed charges and ‘free’ offers that are not truly free.
Who knows where this is all going to lead but watch what & listen
what this gentleman Ryan Lee has to say

Hi Mick
This is going to cause all kinds of problems, but the big guys will of course get round it. Have you tried it yourself at all?
Best wishes
Mike
Hi Mike, it sure is going to cause all sorts of problems and maybe a lot of genuine
Marketers will lose out,and sure the more savvy internet marketers will get round it.
I have never tried it yet Mike butI certainly wouldn’t rule it out , It would be really wise
to research thoroughly before I bought into one as you could lose fist fulls of money
Cheers mick.
Hi Mick,
I really don’t like the forced continuity programs. I have now avoided signing up to quite a few free things because of the forced continuity. Especially when some of the forced continuity programs are a waste of money!! I have been scammed a few times too many. Great post and interesting thoughts. I am sure the big players will get around it somehow, however those people like me that have been scammed a few times won;t be so gullible.
Hope all is great.
Jacinta
Hi Jacinta sorry i have not replied sooner
, I have been busy joining a few giveaways hopefully to build my list
I have always shyed away as the cost throughout the year can become enormous.
but saying that there are a number of decent guys out there who I have met at workshops who have my complete trust ,Lee Mcintyre & John thornhill being two of them
Cheers Mick Ps bought some of Johns stuff i’m very happy with it.
I
Hi Mick,
I’ve first heard about this at the Alex Jeffreys Workshop in Las Vegas and considered it a good news as Alex did.
I have always avoided signing up to programs like that. Even when I knew the guys were good like in the case of Lee Mcintyre and John Thornhill.
The fact hat Visa and Master Card have been losing money like crazy due to huge amounts of cancellations shows that people didn’t really want to continue with the programs for the most part even though they couldn’t resist signing up for them.
Anything that is forced is and should be short lived and better yet not started at all.
It’s much better to be open about the cost at the very start. Those who sign up then are much more likely to continue with it.
Good and informative post. Had I not been to Vegas I would have likely not known about the subject and your post would thus have been the only source of news about it for me.
Even though I had been aware of this, reading your post reminded me of it again.
Vance
Hi Vance , both Lee and John are very open and its not as drastic as people are making out
its a good thing transparency is key so Lee and john will have no problems.
, great to see you had a fantastic time in Vegas seen the pics on your blog
good time had by all
cheers Mick
Hi Mick,
I had heard about this in January, It was bound to happen sooner or later… The credit card companies are only just becoming wise to the way marketers work online.
They will always be playing catch up and having to alter their terms of service on a regular basis.
On another note, do you still happen to have those photos of me from Lee’s event in Manchester?… I forgot to save them all on Facebook and figured they would always be on the Alex Jeffreys Students group if I needed them, but you seem to have taken them down from what I can tell?
If you still have them it would be great if you could send them to my email, which I use in the details for leaving blog comments.
Cheers!
Paul
Hi paul sorry I haven’t got back sooner I have been busy both online and off
like I said to Ian and your witness to this Lee Mcintyre is the man to follow with continuity programs he does it the right and honest
way
. by the wayI am back on facebook so you can download the pics
any probs throw me an email
cheers Mick
I think this can only be good news, afterall there have been problems with people attempting to cancel and not being able to. This then leaves a bitter taste in people’s mouths – and not only gives them a negative view of the person/company they were buying from, but also the whole IM / information product arena.
This isn’t saying that there can’t be continuity programs – just that things will be changed for the benefit of the consumer. This will actually be of benefit for us Internet Marketers too – it will help the credibility of information products, the IM industry and any continuity programs that play to the rules will still be able to reap the benefits.
Iain.
Hi Ian Yes it should help us all , a fine example would be to follow
Lee Mcintyre he doesn’t do a bad job does he, earns
over a hundred grand a month and he is very sincere
Cheers Mick
